Wanted to share my experience at animal house and the lousy service they provide proudly. My cat started having seizures a few weeks ago. 2 suspected, 1 confirmed within 24 hours. I took her there next day and they said it’s a UTI. would not give any medicine for the seizures even, just antibiotics. She was on those for a week and the seizures were getting worse. The next Friday her seizures lasted a full ten minutes and we rushed her to the emergency vet in Knoxville as animal house was closed. Found out she has most suspected to be a brain tumor, but very small chance of FIP or parasites in the brain though she does not fit that criteria it could be possible. She was put on Keppra to manage the seizures and it was working great. I had a telehealth with another dr a few hours away to figure out a sustainable treatment. As holistic as possible. That dr was mailing me a prescription for a different med as it is safer use long term. That medicine hadn’t come in yet, and she was almost out of keppra to get through the weekend so I called animal house and asked if they could fill it. They said they can give me the script to take to wallgreens but it is a $35 script fee. I made that phone call about 1 pm Friday. Got to animal house at about 5:20 and they hadn’t even called yet. I waited about 45 minutes there and I had somewhere I had to be so I said I had to go but call me. Never called me. Saturday I call wallgreens. They said nobody had spoken to her. So here we are going all weekend without medicine for my cat who had started seizing again. Monday I was able to get the new medicine she needs therefore the keppra was no longer needed. I just went into animal house to ask for a refund for the $35 script fee. And they refused because the fee is for the drs time she spent to call it in. But when I was told about the fee I did not know that’s what it was for. I thought it was a fee the pharmacy charges the vet for or something I didn’t understand exactly what that meant. I had wallgreens on the phone the guy I spoke to couldn’t find the medicine. They also had wallgreens on the phone and the pharmacist hadn’t filled the medicine but did acknowledge they spoke to the vet and that wallgreens messed up. However. I paid the vet $35 to get a medicine in Friday. Thinking it was a fee for the script itself not for the drs time. And they are refusing to refund. I also mentioned that I was confused why she wouldn’t give seizure meds in the first place and she said “she hadn’t had a seizure” and argued me ab that. Then I said she is without a doubt seizing and she literally said “that’s fine, I can’t diagnose seizures” The vet then yelled at me, and threatened to call the police on me if I did not leave. Until that point I was talking calm with growing frustration. And I was trying to explain the whole course of the weekend and what was going on and she hold not let me finish. All I was asking was to call the owner while I was there. Because this should be resolved. Paid $35 for a prescription I never received. Also she mentioned that she stayed an hour and a half after hours to call it in and could have been at dinner like I was but instead was calling the meds in. Mind you I called the vet to call this in at 1pm. She waited until almost 6. I understand being busy but come on. And instead of just writing the script for me to take she was trying to call wallgreens. And do it that way which is fine but again after all day like that it would’ve been quicker to just write it. This was wrong. But FYI if your animal has seizures do not go here she will not treat them at all. And is 100% ok with it. I still feel the $35 should be refunded. And something should be signed to acknowledge what the script fee actually means. That would protect both the clients money and vets office.
